Crippling Corruption

In the morning news, a senator suggested that those accused and proven guilty of corruption should be aligned in Nyayo stadium and executed as a radical measure to curb corruption. That is how tiresome the corruption scandal in Kenya is. I wonder why some individuals would excel in oppressing others without a flicker but again this is a man eat man society. But does it have to?  The people we have entrusted with our resources to help distribute equally so that together as a country we grow are in fact tearing it down into pieces and hindering the growth of our nation.  We all know the famous saying that insanity is doing things over and over in the same manner and yet expecting different results. I may not know much but I know the pain of not getting what you truly deserve because somebody somewhere knows someone who knows someone who knows someone. There are very many ways to mitigate the corruption crisis that we are in. First and foremost we look at our judicial system. I have read a few books and watched a few movies as well to realize that the Kenyan judicial system is so powerful thus giving it a lot of lee way to corruption. We all know that arresting the culprits is not the end of it because in one way or the other, they are going to end up scot free.  If I was asked I would propose that the judiciary add a section of the jury to the court. The jurors are charged with the responsibility of deciding whether, on the facts of the case, a person is guilty or not guilty of the offence for which he or she has been charged. The jurors are impartial and independent and the beauty of it is that so long as a Kenyan is a registered voter he or she must participate as a juror once in a lifetime. Back to the corrupt individuals, once they have been indicted part of their sentence should be repossessing all their properties such that once they finish serving their sentence they will have to start from the very bottom. With such a harsh sentence in place any person with love for his or her family will definitely think twice before pocketing public money no matter how small. In one of reverend Kisaka sermons, he reminded the congregation that we are all God’s stewards of the resources He has given us and to whom much is given much is expected. Whatever is done in darkness shall be brought to light and finally let us remember that a lie can travel halfway round the world while the truth is putting on shoes.

Much has been said about anger. It is many things including scary. Anger occurs generally due to being hurt. When personal boundaries are crossed it is natural to feel hurt. On a serious note, anger wears one down. It is tiresome to be angry.. I mean you are always grumpy having, a long face, feeling like smashing something and what not.

I used to be angry about a lot of things but I came to learn that there is only to be angry and that one is not me. It is God. His anger is Justified unlike yours and mine. So what if your life is not going the way you wanted it to go? You don’t belong to yourself. You were bought at a price 1 Corinthians 6:20..

I was reading the story of Joseph. You remember him, the handsome lad that was the second youngest of 12 brothers. Honestly speaking Joseph went through a hard life. His mother passed on when he was small. His brothers were so jealous of him that they plotted to kill but through God’s will and design for his life he was sold. Imagine that being sold.

He religiously worked for his boss Potiphar whose wife was eyeing him, did I mention that he was handsome Genesis 39:6b. He got into trouble for refusing to sleep with Potiphar’s wife with the response I pray to use every single day of my life.. He gave the response that how could he do such a wicked thing and sin against His God Genesis 39:9. He was arrested for something he didn’t do.  After all that went down he still cared for the same brothers by offering them food and land.

What a guy. He is one guy that anger would be his middle name but he wasn’t angry or resentful. He knew who His God is and His awesome wonders so why would he fret? Amazing right. We all have reasons to be angry and valid so we may say but then God tells us to rejoice in Him at all times. He will take care of you. He has put His name above His word and He is no man to lie neither to change His mind.

I know its easier said than done but when you put your trust and hope in him and hang on each and every word He says you shall lead a peaceful and a  quiet life. Anger does more harm than good to one’s life. God never said that this life was easy but He said He will never leave you nor forsake you. And one thing I have come to know God is interested in your character. A song I love says that, Lord you are breaking me part of making me your are hurting me part of molding me and i will not let go of your caring hand.

Be encouraged and know that everything works out for good and that God is seated on His throne of grace not pacing around with His hands on His head, no He is seated because He has every single thing in your life figured out. As long as you hold one to the masters hand anger, disappointments, frustrations and what have you will be a past tense story not that they are not bound to happen but the fact that you are living everyday for Him, your heart will always be glad.

Who is a friend? Yes it is a simple word that carries heavy meaning. People have taken that word for granted one too many times. A friend according to me is someone who has your back. By back I mean support you till the end. What happened to the good old ways where we used to pinky promise friendship. Afterwards we would go to the field and play together, sit in class together, wait for the bus together and even share lunches. Well today one calls himself or herself your friend but good Lord whilst you sleep next to them be sure to leave your one eye open. It saddens my heart every time I hear cases of betrayal and believe me they are on the rise. “Friends” stealing from you, sleeping with your boyfriends, bad mouthing you, filled with the green eyed monster when you succeed even going to the extent of killing you. I mean it’s so annoying to think you have a friend only to realise that you are just being used. It is a pain that does not go away easily. I recently broke off a friendship with a couple of am not so sure what to call them. Perhaps I should refer to them as “people that I used to know”. At first I thought they were my friends but it only took a matter of time to see them in their true nature. They were manipulative people who cared about no one but themselves.  I had sacrificed my time for them like any good friend would do {and yes I consider myself a good friend}but little did I know that I was  wasting my time on people who did not deserve it and never will. Agreeing to be someone’s friend is no easy task, that I know but once you have accepted it, I believe you owe it to God, yourself and that particular person to be the best friend that you can be. But please do not take people for granted. No man is an island and we all need that friend that you can always count on. Owing to the fact that what goes round comes around why don’t you do to others what you would like them to do for you…..  Food for thought.
